Llanos Chapter members of the Order of the Arrow are busy planning the District Wide Arrow-of-Light and Crossover Ceremony which is open to all North District Webelos Dens and Boy Scout Troops. The Arrow-of-Light Ceremony will Commence at the North District Webelos Woods event on Saturday, April 17, 2010. This is an opportunity for Webelos to publicly formalize their commitment to their future Troops in a grand ceremony that will help celebrate the Centennial of the BSA. All interested Webelos and Scout Units are invited to express their desire to participate in this Native American style extravaganza to the Llanos Chapter Adviser, Edward Bareis, 972-247-6588 ebareis@northdistrict.org . Llanos Chapter is extremely close to achieving “Honor Chapter” status for 2009. It only takes a few more dues payments by the few people who either forgot or didn’t know to pay their Order of the Arrow dues earlier in the year. The membership dues payments fund the activities of Mikanakawa Lodge and help the Lodge to qualify for “Honor Lodge” status. “Honor Lodge” status permits Mikanakawa Lodge to apply for grants to fund construction and improvement projects at Circle Ten Council Camps. One of the proposed projects includes a bridge across the North end of Murchison Lake at Clements Scout Ranch. The bridge project will reroute the Governor’s Trail along the inside of the fence line alleviating the need to hike along the exterior of the fence adjacent to FM753 and FM2970. Mikanakawa Lodge cannot apply for the needed funds unless it has been declared an “Honor Lodge.” Llanos Chapter encourages all Order of the Arrow members to maintain their membership so that the Chapter may be named an “Honor Chapter” and so that Mikanakawa Lodge will qualify for “Honor Lodge” status. Llanos Chapter is a member of Mikanakawa Lodge, Order of the Arrow, BSA. Chapter members meet on the second Thursday of each month at Valley View Christian Church (where the North District Boy Scout Roundtable meets). Chapter meeting activities include socializing, discussion of calendar events, event planning, skill training, Native American dancing and music, games, and pizza. Llanos Chapter cheerfully provides staffers for District and Council programs and service events. Mikanakawa Lodge cheerfully conducts camp maintenance events, service events, pow-wows, and fellowship weekend events. All OA members in good standing are invited to participate in the upcoming Lodge Leadership Development Conference on November 14, 2009 at 14740 Meandering Way, Richardson, TX. Information and registration can be found on-line at www.miki.org .
